Course Overview

This health and safety training session aims to address a critical issue in the workplace—falls from heights—and equip workers with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent such accidents. Here’s a concise summary that highlights the key points:


Falls from Heights: Risks and Prevention in Canada

  • Prevalence of Injuries and Fatalities:
    • Approximately 26,000 lost-time injuries annually due to falls from heights.
    • Over 100 workers die each year from fall-related incidents.
  • Key Insights from Recent Studies:
    • More than 90% of falls occur to workers who are not protected.
    • 33% of fall fatalities happen from heights less than six metres, emphasizing that even shorter falls can be deadly.
  • Regulatory Requirements:
    • Federal and Provincial regulations mandate protection for workers at heights greater than 3 metres.
  • Training Program Highlights:
    • Hands-on and interactive, including group discussions, case studies, and individual instruction.
    • Designed to enable participants to apply safety measures effectively to protect themselves and colleagues.


Duration: 4-6 hours of on-site instruction.

Course Topics

 At the completion of this health and safety training session, participants will have acquired the safety knowledge of:

  • Federal Fall Protection Regulations and Employer, Supervisor and Worker responsibilities under the Act and Regulations
  • Identification and description of the main fall hazards and the equipment and procedures needed to protect against falling and how to properly fit and wear the personal protective equipment
  • How to inspect and maintain fall protection equipment. (Lanyards, harness, etc.)
  • Ladder, scaffolds and powered elevated platform safe working practices
