Entry Systems
Entry Systems
This section provides a summary of the entry permit system which sets out the precautionary measures and procedures to be followed when work is to be performed in a confined space.
Permit System
We suggest that you look at the permit system as written documentation of a process identifying who is to perform the work and how it is to be performed.
Although permits vary in size, length and number of conditions covered, complete information is very important. Review the confined space hazard assessment, entry procedure and rescue plan before or during the permit process. This will ensure a complete overview of the hazards and activities to be considered in the confined space entry.
Permits
Permits should include the following (see Appendix C: Confined Space Entry Permit):
- Location.
- Work type.
- Hazards and controls.
- Time period.
- Name(s) of authorized attendant(s).
- Entries and exits.
- Equipment list required for entry and rescue and verification.
- Atmospheric testing.
- Hot work.
- Verification of compliance.
- Review of rescue plan and procedures
The entry permit must be readily available to each entrant and employees performing related work.
