Section 2: Definitions
This section provides an overview and definitions for both Lock-Out
and Tag-Out in the workplace.
Lock-Out
It is a method of preventing equipment from being activated and endangering workers near or around the equipment. During a lock-out, disconnection of the machinery or equipment from its energy source[s] is done to give the equipment a “Zero Energy Status”. A device is placed over or through the energy source disconnection and locked into place to ensure that it cannot be re-energized while the employee is performing his/her duties.
